UTILITY OF HAMAMELIS VIRGINICA AND CALCAREA FLUORICA IN ACUTE BLEEDING PILES

Haemorrhoids (piles) represent one of the most prevalent anorectal conditions globally, with acute bleeding episodes causing significant morbidity and patient distress. While conventional medicine offers surgical and minimally invasive options, complementary medicine — particularly Homoeopathy and Biochemic Tissue Salt therapy — provides a gentle, effective, and non-invasive approach to managing acute bleeding piles. This review comprehensively evaluates the utility of two well-established remedies: Hamamelis Virginica in the 30th Centesimal (30C) potency and Calcarea Fluorica in the 6th Decimal (6X) potency as a biochemic tablet.

Hamamelis Virginica, derived from the Witch Hazel plant, is a foremost homoeopathic remedy acting on the venous system and haemostatic pathways, addressing active haemorrhoidal bleeding with associated soreness, bruised pain, and passive venous congestion. Calcarea Fluorica (Calcium Fluoride), a Schuessler biochemic tissue salt, targets the connective tissue matrix, restoring elasticity to vessel walls, venous valves, and the supporting fibroelastic structures of the anorectal plexus. Together, these two remedies operate on complementary pathophysiological axes — one addressing acute haemostasis and venous tone, the other promoting structural repair and preventing recurrence.

This article reviews the botanical/mineral pharmacology, materia medica characteristics, clinical indications, dosage protocols, evidence base, and synergistic utility of these remedies with reference to modern understanding of haemorrhoidal pathophysiology. The review supports the rational use of this combnation in clinical practice and recommends avenues for future clinical trials.
